Mouse Tester validates pointer, button, and scroll-wheel behavior directly in-browser, with live event data and no software installation. It is useful for support teams, QA workflows, hardware checks, and everyday troubleshooting when a mouse feels inconsistent, unresponsive, or inaccurate.

This tool helps you verify:

  • Live X/Y coordinates and movement delta on a dedicated test surface
  • Left, Middle, Right, Back, and Forward button state changes
  • Scroll-wheel direction and delta values
  • Move and click event counters with an activity meter
  • A timestamped event log you can export for support evidence

How to Use

  1. Move your cursor over the Test Surface to begin live diagnostics.
  2. Confirm the crosshair follows your movement and the X, Y, and Delta values update.
  3. Click each mouse button while the cursor stays inside the test surface.
  4. Check the Connection Info panel for the buttons currently held and the last event.
  5. Scroll the wheel up and down to validate direction and delta registration.
  6. Review the Input Log for a timestamped history of captured events.
  7. Use Export Log when you need a plain-text record for support or QA review.

Understanding Results

  • Pass: Movement, clicks, and scroll input all register with expected values.
  • Pointer jumpiness: Large, irregular Delta values during steady movement suggest a sensor, surface, or polling issue.
  • Missing or duplicated clicks: Watch for unexpected repeated Down/Up events in the log, which can indicate a failing switch.
  • Scroll skips or reversals: Inconsistent wheel direction or delta points to an encoder or browser-handling issue.
  • Back / Forward not detected: The browser or OS may consume those buttons for navigation before the page can read them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work with trackpads?

Partially. Trackpads generate pointer and scroll input, but gestures may not map cleanly to standard mouse-button events. Test with a physical mouse for the most accurate result.

Why do the X and Y values change only inside the test surface?

Coordinates are measured relative to the test surface rather than the full window, which keeps readings local, predictable, and easy to compare.

Why does Delta change even at a steady speed?

Delta is the distance between the previous and current captured positions. Small differences are normal; large inconsistencies may indicate sensor, surface, or polling issues.

Are my inputs uploaded anywhere?

No. Events are processed in the browser. Exported logs are only created when you download them.

Why are the Back and Forward buttons not always detected?

Some browsers or operating systems intercept those buttons for page navigation before the page can read them.

Troubleshooting

Pointer feels jumpy or inconsistent

  • Clean the mouse sensor and test on a different surface.
  • Disable OS pointer enhancement temporarily.
  • Compare behavior in another browser.

Clicks are missing or duplicated

  • Test each button repeatedly in the test surface.
  • Watch for unexpected repeated Down/Up events in the log.
  • Compare results on another device if available.

Scroll wheel skips or reverses

  • Test both slow and fast wheel movement.
  • Review the wheel direction and delta output.
  • Compare across browsers to separate hardware from browser handling.

Back / Forward buttons do not appear

  • Try a different browser.
  • Confirm the OS is not reserving those buttons for navigation.
  • Treat missing events here as a browser limitation first, not immediate hardware failure.
